Preliminary results of phase 12

Another phase has ended and we want to thank our committed volunteers for all their hard work! A lot was achieved during this phase:

Monitoring of Jaguar Predation on Marine Turtles: the research team counted seven freshly killed turtles on the Tortuguero National Park beach for a total of 36 dead turtles this season.

Camera Trapping Study: 48 records of ten species, but still no jaguars. The species recorded this phase were agouti (Dasyprocta punctata), great curassow (Crax rubra), paca (Agouti paca), white-collared peccary (Pecari tajacu), red brocket deer (Mazama americana), four-eyed opossum (Philander opossum), great tinamou (Tinamus major), nine-banded armadillo (Dasypus novemcinctus), white-nosed coatimundi (Nasua narica), and common opossum (Didelphis marsupialis), plus a unidentified lizzard.

Canal Bird Monitoring: the three most commonly species recorded were the green heron (Butorides virescens) in Caño Harold, green ibis (Mesembrinibis cayennensis) in Caño Palma and the little blue heron (Egretta caerulea) in Caño Chiquero.

Thank you everyone!
