Break the record

One of the highlights of the week is definitely the Jaguar Walk with a record breaking 71 dead green marine turtles found. This single record is already higher than the total number of dead turtles recorded in Jag Walk in the last 3 months!

‘It was a long day’, Gary, one of the jag walkers, smiled and said. He described his feeling after walking 12 hours on the soft sand under the hot sun as ‘accomplished’.

Jag Walk is conducted every Sunday on Tortuguero Beach, inside the famous national park of the same name. ‘It’s such a remote beach. There was nothing at all but us, vultures and dead turtles.’ Heather, another jag walker, gasped that after seeing so many dead turtles, she appreciates seeing live ones during Night Walks.
