2008 leatherback season nest relocations and poaching

It is almost safe to say we are now nearing the end of the leatherback season. Of the 82 nests laid so far, seven were relocated for reasons of flooding or poaching. None of these were found by poachers.
Bak Our first relocated nest of the season (performed by COTERC Station Manager Jon Willians) hatched on Wednesday and was excavated last Friday for an impressive 94% success rate. This nest was composed of a total of 68 yolk and 20 yolkless eggs and 64 eggs hatched. Only one egg was on stage 1 of development and three eggs did not hatch and the embryo did not develop.
