Volunteer Voice - Copa Del Cocal

Last week we had the first and hopefully not the last  "Copa del Cocal" football tournament. On the days leading up to the tournament we asked the kids to provide team names complete with rosters. Of the 8 teams that signed up, only 4 showed up at the start, however as the morning progressed we had 7 teams playing in 2 groups.

After some exciting group play, including some great girls vs boys matches, everyone was ready for the semi finals where the intensity picked up a few notches. Although there were some very competitive games, it was awesome to see that for the most part, the kids played fair and respected the volunteer referees. The final saw Guerreros beat Punta Caliente in an overtime thriller. After a great day of football, Guerreros celebrated with a trophy and certificates to remember the experience by, whilst Freddy won most valuable player of the tournament! A memorable start to the first of the Copa Del Cocal football tournaments.
