The Great Water Fight Of El Cocal
Written by Louise Harvey - GVI Manuel Antonio Community Volunteer
After learning that there would be no school on Tuesday due to a teachers strike, it was time for the volunteers to plan a day of activities for the kids.
A scavenger hunt was arranged with a twist that would
culminate in a water fight on the beach at the end. A great idea in theory but the best laid
plans took a slight change of course when a water balloon was released
early. We didn’t quite make it to the
beach before the first wave of battle commenced right there in the grounds of
the community centre! The volunteers had
a slightly unfair advantage given that we had access to the only water supply
but we played fair (for the most part) and everyone had great fun soaking each
other with water balloons, bottles, jugs and anything else we could get our
hands on.
After a quick clean up, a very waterlogged group of
volunteers took the kids along to the beach to end what everyone agreed was a
fantastic day.
It was a real
pleasure to see the kids, many of whom have had to grow up far too quickly,
have the chance to lose themselves in being children, even just for an
afternoon. It was a privilege to be a
part of it.
