The beginning...
I am finally here in Costa Rica! This is the second week of my two month
program. So far it's a unique experience. Absolutely amazing. As
well as some hard work! However being surrounded by beautiful
volunteers, children, staff and nature on a daily basis makes it all
worthwhile. Especially when you see a difference in yourself and the
children each day that goes by. I started on the arts program in the
community center of El Cocal. It is brand new and I am the first to
officially sign up. I had no idea it was so difficult to keep energetic
children engaged all day! At first I thought I couldn't do it. However
I realized that I needed to be patient and closely analyze the
children's personalities, needs and capabilities to come up with
exercises that were fun engaging and educational. Some of the things I
have taught them so far are primary colors and mixing, static
electricity through experiments, mosaics, stencil art, water color art
resisting wax, sponge art etc. They are super clever! Now that I am
learning how to better teach them, every day is a great day because I
see many of the children so excited to learn more and more. It really is
 an amazing feeling.
Paris :)
