A Great Day of Surveys!

It was our first day of sunshine since arriving at Jalova base and Sorrel woke us up with the words, ‘Alright guys, we have an open sky so it seems you’re going to see your first sunrise!’
And it was a beautiful one, especially when you see it from the boat on the canal.
It was a great start to the day but the best was yet to come during the incidental walk in the afternoon.
The walk started with a good spot from Kim of a Tayra, an elusive member of the weasel family, not often seen on surveys. It was a beautiful animal who was happy just looking at us.

Another great sighting was of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 White-nosed Coatis! We saw the little ones running around in the trees and the adults too. Awesome! We just stood there watching them as time flew by. I absolutely loved it!

But there was even more to come that day. Once it got dark, Pepper took us on a night walk in the coconut plantation. We saw loads of different frogs but there were two less expected animals. The first was a racoon high up in a coconut tree, of which we could only see its eye-shine when we shone a torch at it. A photo allowed us to identify it.
The second was big fer-de-lance who was coiled up, hidden in the grass, probably waiting for an unsuspecting frog to pass by.
It was an exciting day and I’m curious about what else I’ll see.
