Long weekend adventures

Every four weeks is a long weekend here and so for this weekend we, being Jessie and Jess, decided to make it count and travel to the Caribbean Coast to a little town by the name of Puerto Viejo.

Puerto Viejo is known as "little Jamaica" which is really quite accurate and was a great escape.
We stayed at Cabinas Guarana, about a 5 min walk from the bus stop and main street. It was really clean with really nice, comfortable rooms that were affordable.
Puerto Viejo is a small beach town full of Rasta men, where the locals all speak Spanish with a Jamaican accent! Everywhere you turn is Bob Marley!

We hired bikes for the day and rode from town along the road for a few hours where the jungle meets the beach, paradise. We stopped at a few little beaches along the way and on the way back we stumbled along the Jaguar Rescue Centre.

Unfortunately at the time there were no jaguars. However there were plenty of interesting snakes, monkeys, sloths (including baby ones!), oscelots and even spiders...not our favorite creatures ever. We paid roughly $15 for a two hour guided tour, which was well worth it as we were able to interact with some of the animals such as the monkeys.

Puerto Viejo was a truly beautiful place to visit, full of variety and many interesting characters and things to do.
