Mammal Transect

After the first survey of phase ended with no records, the mammal transect finally saw some action this week. There were 14 records including a sighting of white lipped peccary. Last week the only sighting was of an American Pygmy kingfisher (Chloroceryle aenea), spotted actually fishing in the virtually underwater transect. Almost a week of rain had washed any sign of mammals off the trail. Week three had significantly more success finding tracks with 6 species recorded, including Tapir (Tapirus bairdii) and Jaguar (Panthera onca). White-lipped Peccary (Tayassu pecari) tracks were followed down much of the trail and the peccary themselves trampled onto the trail near the end.
