Half Moons under a Full Moon

This past week has seen the volunteers and patrol leaders under a brightly lit sky thanks to a full moon. The light makes a world of a difference when walking on the beach, as the lurking driftwood and logs is sometimes enough to confuse even an experienced patrol leader – sometimes they are just so turtle-y! However well lit the beach may be, the patrol teams have found themselves endlessly daunted by a plethora of half moons up and down the beach. Half moons occur when a turtle emerges from the sea but, for one reason or another, turns around back into the sea without nesting. Although slightly disconcerted by the lack of nesting turtles, night patrol teams are still hopeful that the season is starting to pick up at last.
