Purple haze

This week, the fresh faced volunteers were provided with a birding trip out onto the Penitencia, for some “BIN” training. They were adorned with multiple sightings of proud bare-throated tiger-herons (Tigrisoma mexicanum) and elegant ringed kingfishers (Ceryle torquatus).

Purple gallinule (Porphyrio martinica)

Little did they know, with all the Northern jacanas (Jacana spinosa) and little blue herons (Egretta caerulea), nothing could prepare them for the rare sighting of the elusive purple gallinule (Porphyrio martinica). As the bird struck an emphatic Blue Steel pose, comments from the volunteers were abundant, and went something like this:

“Sorry, I drooled a little”...“It was like watching a Madonna video”...“That bird made me complete, I found myself when I found the purple gallinule”

Well, probably you got the message, it was simply beautiful!
